Figure 6.  Upper left: A difficult to watermark Washington head stamp, a 10¢ yellow, perf. 12, which might have a double line watermark (Scott #338) or a single line watermark (Scott #381).  This stamp has creases, lots of cancel ink in a confounding pattern and a tear.

Upper Right: The same stamp in Ronsonol®.  Note the translucency of the paper reveals the ink and cancel.  The watermark is not obvious.

Lower Left: The same stamp in clarityTM.  The watermark is visible at left center -- part of an "S" is present.

Lower Right: The same stamp in the Signoscope.  The watermark is visible without any effects of the stamp ink and minimal effects of the cancel.
